Hello/Goodbye
Image projection
The collaborative work of Anja Steidinger and Raul Cordero relates the significance of the non-verbal gesture of waving. The concept of this work was developed between the artists for several months in a procedural specification via email. The gesture of waving shows the spatial-temporal closeness or rather distance between Cuba and Germany. Without an explicite context, the gesture of a waving hand can either signify farewell or welcome - it is both. Images of two people were projected onto the wall of the customs canal. Depending on the position of the visitor, who had just arrived or was leaving the exhibition, they were either welcomed or bid farewell. In a room inside the customs clearance an installation was mounted, which explained how the projected image was produced. A small motor moved a five-layered-photography of two people waving in front of a videocamera to and fro. The moving of the lenticular photography created the illusion of a cinematic action (waving), which was welcoming- and farewell-scenes with all its emotional feelings. (F.F.)
